WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

EVOLUTION OF YOUR CAREER

Your career is distinctly yours, not anybody else’s! Your background, college experience, and
your first job after college, strongly influence your career, but those experiences do not
necessarily define your career. No matter how, when, or where your exciting career leads
there are common challenges and opportunities along the way. Among these are the “Dual
Ladder and the transition from technical to managerial responsibilities. Other common factors include the critical importance of ideas, and how we get them, nurture them, and communicate them. But ideas lead to opportunities, and opportunities demand choices, so how do we choose? How do we benefit from feedback and criticism, and what is it like to quite literally and scientifically going where no one has gone before? Guide your personal adventure is with a moral and ethical compass as you accept the responsibility to bring fairness to your own corner of the world.

NEGOTIATION PRACTICE FOR THOSE WHO LOVE & HATE TO NEGOTIATE

This workshop will touch in key point of negotiation for absolute beginners as well as provide some insightful tips for those who are experienced negotiators. If the thought of negotiating intimidates you & creates a feeling of nausea COME! This will be a safe/low-stakes environment in which we will practice negotiating for things that matter to us i.e. first jobs, internship opportunities, relationship/personal interest.

AT THE INTERSECTIONS OF LGBTQ+ & LATINX

This workshop will be tailored for members of the Latinx community who identify within the
LGBTQ+ communities. The presentation will first provide an overview of some of the historical challenges faced by Latinx folx in the LGBTQ+ community, then move into a discussion based conversation around activism and healing.

IDENTITY PORTFOLIOS: NAVIGATING RACE LABELS & IDENTITIES

In this workshop we will learn about the about the social and historical developments that led to the racialization of Latinos. We will then explore the way in which those labels and identities are part of our day to day and how we navigate then in today's social and political climate.
